Astrology is the most complete reference module
for getting to know about your life and destiny in store. It is thousands of years old, and represents an
accumulation of wisdom about the human condition and our relationship
with the world and the cosmos.
Astrology is not a belief system. It is a practical
technique that simply works. Although nobody can explain exactly why,
anyone who had their chart read does know with certainty that it works,
whatever the reason, simply because of the accuracy of the information.
An astrological chart is a map of your Self, revealing
your personality, the major events in your life, your challenges and the
positive and negative circumstances which will touch upon all the areas
of your life. It is the most complete and accurate guide to your
personal experience of life that you are ever likely to experience.
Astrology can help you make decisions, it can answer any
questions that you might have, it can reveal patterns of behaviour in your
relationships, it can help you to choose a career and it can always offer
meaningful guidance on any other matters.
Vedic Astrology refers to Indian or Hindu astrology, a
system that originated in ancient India, and was documented by sages in
the Vedic scriptures. Also known as “Jyotish”-the science of light,
Vedic astrology deals with astral light patterns that are thought to
determine our destiny.
In the West it is often called Jyotish Astrology, Hindu Astrology or Indian Astrology.
The origins of Jyotish are lost in the mist of time, but it is thought
to have originated between 5,000 BC-10,000 BC from the Vedantas, along
with Yoga and Ayurveda and the great spiritual teachings of such works
as the Bhagavad Gita. The great sages of that time in India put together the knowledge of
the Vedic period. This was passed on through oral traditions for
countless generations.Jyotish is said to be the Eye of the Vedas. It is a means by which our maker has made it possible for us to illuminate our lives. For this reason it is very much a spiritual science. It can show the soul’s progress towards liberation or Moksha through the cycle of rebirth.
The astrological birth chart shows the exact karma that the soul has chosen to experience in this life to continue the soul’s evolution.
How is Vedic Astrology Different to Western Astrology?
One of the main differences between the two systems is in the way the charts are drawn up. The Vedic system uses the Sidereal or Fixed star system, whereas the Western astrologers adopted the Tropical or Moving star system. Because of the gradual tilting of the earth in space on its axis, the zodiac, if you calculate it from the sun’s relationship to the earth, appears to be moving at the rate of a little less than 1/60th of a degree per year. Currently, the relative or movable zodiac is off or out of alignment with the fixed or real star-based zodiac by roughly 23 degrees, which is almost one whole sign of the zodiac.
Because the two systems are skewed from each other by nearly one whole sign, most people’s “Sun Sign”, that which you can get from the newspaper each day, is usually one sign back when the chart is refigured using Vedic astrology. So, the first surprise of using the Vedic system is that you are no longer the Sun Sign you always thought you were. However, if you were born in the last 5 days or so of the Western sign month, then you will probably still be the same sign in the Vedic system.
The Vedic system though spiritual, is also a very useful tool for self -development as well as looking at the more practical elements of life. Such things as psychology, relationships, wealth, career, health, desires and understanding your life purpose are all part of your spiritual journey according to Jyotish.
Jyotish Has a Wealth of Tools to Use for Interpretation.
The astrological birth chart itself as well as :- Divisional charts that each cover specific areas of life such as marriage, children, career, parents, siblings just to name a few.
- Planetary periods called Dasas.
- Nakshatras – Lunar Mansions of the Moon.
- Yogas – Planetary combinations that give strong indications of karma to come to fruition in this life
- Transits
Jyotish will help you to understand the timing of the karmas to come into your life and so you have the choice to be prepared.
Basic Principle of Vedic Astrology
The basic premise of this astrology is that all things are linked. Your karma or fortune is determined by a predestined cosmic design. You are a soul incarnating in a body at a very specific time and place, and your life is a reflection of the greater whole into which you are born just as flowers bloom at certain times, say during spring time, when all conditions are perfectly congenial. So is the case with our births on this planet. What are Charts?
In Jyotish, the main item is your chart. It’s a map of the planets in the signs of the zodiac. Charts are cast based on an exact moment at an exact place on earth. Therefore, the moment you were born and the place you were born has a chart, and that is your “birth chart” or “natal chart”.The positions of the planets in the real star-based zodiac are taken and your “dashas” (predictive timeline) are arranged. Your Vedic chart will most likely reflect your real life and your dashas are probably operating the way they should. The Vedic astrologer looks at these planets, signs and house placements in your chart and can “see” your personality, as well as life events and possibilities – both the good and the bad times in your life. The dashas are then used to determine “when” the events will unfold in the life.
